Balcony Slab Collapse at Devika Apartment in Vaishali Damages Parked Cars; No Casualties Reported

Ghaziabad, October 2, 2026: Panic gripped residents of Devika Apartment, also known as Devika Tower, in Sector 4, Vaishali, after a balcony slab on an upper floor suddenly collapsed, sending chunks of concrete and debris cascading down the building and into the parking area below.

The incident reportedly originated on the 12th floor, where work involving heavy machinery was said to be underway. According to accounts from the site, a balcony projection, commonly known as a chhajja, gave way and crashed onto the structure beneath it. The impact reportedly damaged portions of balconies on the 11th and 10th floors, before a large amount of debris eventually fell into the ground-level parking area.

Concrete Debris Crashes Into Parking Area

The collapse caused significant damage to vehicles parked beneath the affected section of the building. At least three to four cars were reportedly severely damaged after being struck by falling concrete and debris.

The incident could have resulted in a much more serious tragedy. Witnesses at the site said a young man was reversing his vehicle from the parking area when the collapse occurred and managed to move away shortly before the debris hit the ground.

Despite the scale of the incident, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Personnel from the Kaushambi police station subsequently reached the site and assessed the situation.

Residents Raise Questions Over Building Safety

While the immediate danger appears to have been limited to the affected portion of the building, the incident has raised concerns among residents regarding the structural condition and maintenance of the residential complex.

Residents are now seeking a comprehensive structural safety audit of the building to determine the cause of the balcony collapse and assess whether other portions of the structure could be vulnerable.

Some residents have also raised questions about the maintenance of the complex and alleged that adequate upkeep may not have been carried out despite maintenance charges being collected by the Resident Welfare Association (RWA). These concerns, however, would require verification through maintenance records and an independent technical assessment.

Structural Audit Could Determine Extent of Risk

Experts will need to establish whether the incident was an isolated failure involving the affected balconies or whether it indicates a broader structural or maintenance-related issue.

A detailed inspection could examine the condition of the balconies, concrete slabs, reinforcement, waterproofing, load-bearing elements and any ongoing construction or repair activity in the affected area.

For residents, the immediate priority is clear: an independent assessment of the building’s structural safety and appropriate precautionary measures, if required.

The Vaishali incident has once again highlighted the importance of regular structural inspections and timely maintenance in ageing residential complexes, particularly where construction, repair or heavy machinery work is being carried out.

Authorities and building management are expected to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the collapse and whether any further safety measures are necessary.
